Basmati Rice Pilaf

Rice pilaf is one of my go-to side dish recipes. It is quick and easy to prepare and is a delicious accompaniment to any weeknight meal. I especially like to pair it with protein and vegetable sheet pan meals.

Basmati Rice Pilaf

A quick and easy side dish that goes well with vegetables, chicken, pork and fish.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups basmati rice
  • 3 tsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup finely diced onion
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 2 1/2 cups gluten free, sodium free chicken broth
  • 1 tsp sea salt

Directions

  1. Rinse and soak the rice as per the package instructions.
  2. In a large frying pan with a lid, on medium high heat, saute the onion until it is fragrant. About 5 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic and saute for 30 seconds.
  4. Add the rice and stir until well coated and the oil is absorbed.
  5. Stir in the the chicken broth and salt.
  6. Cover the pot and bring it to a boil. Once it is boiling reduce heat to low and let simmer until all the liquid is absorbed. Approximately 10 – 15 minutes.
  7. After the liquid is absorbed, remove from hear and let sit for 5 minutes.
  8. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve warm.

    Recipe Notes
  • Ensure the rice is rinsed well for best results. Rinsing the rice before cooking removes any extra starch in the rice which can make the rice sticky.
