Yellow Rice Pilaf

Yellow rice pilaf is a variation of my basmati rice pilaf. The beautiful golden hue of this side dish is provided by the turmeric. A great way to brighten your plate.

Basmati Rice Pilaf

A quick and easy side dish which adds colour and flavour to your plate.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups basmati rice
  • 3 tsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup finely diced onion
  • 2 1/2 cups gluten free, sodium free chicken broth
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp sea salt

Directions

  1. Rinse and soak the rice as per the package instructions.
  2. In a large frying pan with a lid, on medium high heat, saute the onion until it is fragrant. About 5 minutes.
  3. Add the rice and stir until well coated and the oil is absorbed.
  4. Stir in the the chicken broth, turmeric and salt.
  5. Cover the pot and bring it to a boil. Once it is boiling reduce heat to low and let simmer until all the liquid is absorbed. Approximately 10 – 15 minutes.
  6. After the liquid is absorbed, remove from hear and let sit for 5 minutes.
  7. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve warm.

    Recipe Notes
  • Ensure the rice is rinsed well for best results. Rinsing the rice before cooking removes any extra starch in the rice which can make the rice sticky.
